Summer School on Artificial Intelligence and Space Law, edition 2022

Updated: Jul 31, 2022

From 4 to 8 July 2022, a cohort of 36 international students participated in the multidisciplinary summer school organized by AI ∞ SpaceLaw Society. During 5 intensive days, the participants enjoyed a journey from Earth to Space. They learned about complex notions related to artificial intelligence (AI), how this technology operates, how it should be designed for protecting human rights, who should be liable in case of damage caused by AI systems and what applications are currently in use, from autonomous vehicles to Mars and Lunar rovers.

The study of space law represented a major component of the course and topics included: an introduction to the main 5 UN international treaties (the Outer Space Treaty, the Liability Convention, the Rescue Agreement, the Registration Convention, the Moon Agreement), space resource utilization, legal aspects of satellite communications, European space law and national space legislation.

The scholarships facilitated by the Society offered the possibility for students of Universitas Indonesia to join the course as well as for students affected by Ukrainian-Russian conflict.
